It has been a decade since I last walked through the historic cobblestone streets of Quebec. I’ve lived most of my life in Vancouver and by contrast the sights and sounds of the older city are a shock to my senses. This time, however, my trip through the city streets is different.
The very personal and thoughtful commentary of our tour guide gives new context and significance to the sights and sounds of Quebec City. The guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm provides me with a newfound appreciation for Quebec.
My understanding of the City is furthered through a discussion of the political and social history of Quebec with Dr. Guy Laforest and Christopher Moore, a leading political scientist and historian respectively. The two provide unparalleled background on the history of Quebec’s political and social roots. The discussion also gives insight as to how Quebec’s history continues to influence the current politics of Quebec and the lives of its citizens.
This time I leave Quebec with a new appreciation and understanding of its history, people and politics. This new appreciation and understanding is due to the resources and dedication to engagement provided by the members, guests and Fellows of Action Canada.
